When it comes to matters of love, even the wisest among us often find ourselves in a muddle. Such is the case with E.M. Forster’s young protagonist Lucy Honeychurch, who faces an intense battle of head versus heart in this English novel of manners. Forster’s beloved work takes us on Lucy’s journey from her cozy childhood home in England to the precarious passions of Italy—all under the stern gaze of Lucy’s spinster aunt and chaperone. For this book club, we will exchange our everyday habitations for fields of violets and sacred lakes, and get lost among the backstreets of Florence with Lucy, as she discovers whether she has the courage to live a life of true love, unfettered by Victorian conventions.
Upon registration, participants will receive a set of guided reading questions with a suggested reading schedule and recommended resources. On the day of book club, they will receive a special book club jotter in which to take notes; a custom bookmark; and other cute goodies apt for book lovers. For novel purchases, may we suggest ordering from Nowhere Bookshop or visiting your local Barnes & Noble!

Each event or workshop is hosted in the Belle & Union San Antonio shop and studio, unless otherwise noted. Space is limited, and seats are sold on a first come, first served basis. Recommended for ages 16 and up. All sales are final and non-refundable. We reserve the right to cancel the event if a minimum number of seats is not sold.
